Commissioning a piece of furniture is an exciting and rewarding experience for both client and the designer maker. John will take you on the fascinating journey of seeing initial design sketches develop into a unique piece of fine furniture.

The commissioning process may commence with a phone call to John and an appointment is then arranged. This meeting usually takes place at the location for the proposed piece and will involve a detailed discussion regarding the specific requirements of the commission.

How To Commission A Piece Of Furniture Design Process

Design Process

John closely involves his clients in the design process in order to achieve their specific requirements. They are welcome to visit the workshop while their commission is in the process of being made giving them the opportunity to see their dreams become reality.

Design Proposal

John will discuss timbers, style, function, budget and any other requirements of the piece. Following this a further meeting is arranged at which an initial design proposal will be made. This will contain drawings, samples, quotations and details of what you can expect from your commission.

Design Proposal Design Approval

Design Approval

On approval of the design, John will produce final detailed drawings and a delivery date agreed. At this stage a financial commitment is required from the client by way of deposit.
